More than 50 top professional triathletes will compete for $50,000 in prize money this Sunday at the Portland area’s first 70.3-mile triathlon, Revolution3 Portland at Blue Lake Park in Fairview. Recruited to Portland by the Oregon Sports Authority, Revolution3 and its celebrated international race series will attract approximately 500 total competitors from around the nation. Just east of Portland, Blue Lake Park will serve as the start/finish area, with a flat, fast bike and run course along NE Marine Drive that features stunning views of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River. Registration for Revolution3 Portland is open through this Friday at rev3tri.com.
Rev3 races offer the unique opportunity for age group athletes and spectators to meet and mingle with some of the biggest names in triathlon. This new event from the growing Revolution3 Triathlon Series has attracted several top pro triathletes, including two-time Ironman Champion Michael Lovato and his wife, Amanda, a Half Ironman Champion, as well as Kate Major, Jordan Rapp, Bree Wee and many more.
Eugene resident and former Oregon State track and cross country champion Jesse Thomas will also be competing for the inaugural Rev3 Portland title. In April, Thomas stunned the triathlon world by winning the 2011 Wildflower Triathlon in California. Rev3tri.com features the full line-up of triathletes expected to compete at this inaugural event.
“We’re incredibly excited to have the stars of triathlon competing here in Portland,” said Oregon Sports Authority CEO Drew Mahalic. “We encourage everyone to come out and cheer on all of the professional and amateur triathletes in the beautiful summer weather this Sunday.”
