PREVIOUS EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Born from the very soul of Portland, Rockstar Energy Open (RSEO) debuted in 2024, highlighting our city's unparalleled skate culture. This event proudly showcased a wide spectrum of talent, from rising stars to renowned Olympic athletes, all converging in the city for the weekend.

The RSEO left an indelible mark on both skateboarding and Portland itself. Transforming the iconic Waterfront Park into an extraordinary sports arena, the three-day event captivated over 25,000 fans and reached 11.2 million viewers worldwide, featuring more than 100 elite athletes. It not only re-energized Portland's dynamic skate community but also redefined what's possible for major sporting events in our city, illustrating how our scenic parks can be ingeniously converted into one-of-a-kind venues, offering a fresh perspective on Portland.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY OPEN

Portland will make history in 2030 by hosting the NCAA Women's Final Four for the first time. With a strong legacy of hosting March Madness—including men's tournaments in 2009, 2015, 2022, and women's tournaments in 2000, 2019, 2024—Portland's Moda Center and Rose Quarter have consistently demonstrated exceptional hospitality and operational prowess for major NCAA events.

What truly sets Portland apart is its proactive dedication to elevating women's sports. The 2024 Women's Regional exemplified this by fostering a city-wide celebration through a vibrant Fan Fest and community initiatives. Key among these was The Sports Bra, the nation's pioneering sports bar focused solely on women's athletics, which hosted one-of-a-kind watch parties. This commitment makes Portland an exciting and fitting choice to host the pinnacle of women's college basketball in 2030.

NCAA MARCH MADNESS

Portland has rapidly solidified its reputation as a cornerstone of U.S. motorsport. After national competitions largely faded from Portland International Raceway (PIR) in the late 90s and 2000s, the city's and Sport Oregon's strategic efforts brought the roar of engines back. The resurgence began with IndyCar's thrilling return in 2018, followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2022. A groundbreaking moment came in 2023 when Formula E made Portland its exclusive U.S. stop for both the '23 and '24 seasons, which made it the first time the race was hosted in the Pacific Northwest. These three premier races collectively injected an estimated $35 million into the local economy in 2023, providing a tremendous boost.

PORTLAND MOTORSPORT

Portland became the stage for a new era of college basketball in 2017 with the debut of the Phil Knight Invitational (PKI), an ESPN Events tournament featuring 16 elite Nike-sponsored teams. The event has been hosted at the Rose Quarter three times, in 2017, 2021, and 2022. The 2022 event was monumental as it celebrated Phil Knight's 85th birthday and expanded to include the equally prestigious Phil Knight Legacy (PKL), a dedicated women's tournament. This expansion underscored Portland's commitment to elevating both men's and women's collegiate athletics in an equal light.
