The Largest Fencing Event In The World Is Set To Call Portland Its Home This Summer

Portland, OR – June 2026 – USA Fencing is officially bringing its Summer Nationals to Portland from June 27 – July 6, 2026, marking the world's largest fencing event’s historic return to the city for the first time since 1977. Taking over the Oregon Convention Center, the massive 10-day tournament will draw more than 6,000 elite fencers competing for national titles across all weapons (Epee, Foil, and Saber) and divisions. The highly inclusive event spans generations of athletes, with competitors ranging in age from 7 to 89 years old, including 170 homegrown qualifiers from the Portland metro area looking to solidify the region as a premier national fencing hub.

The tournament represents a monumental milestone for the local hospitality and sports tourism industries, with USA Fencing estimating that the event will bring an estimated $10 million in economic impact to the city. Backed by over 10,000 contracted hotel room nights, the financial windfall will directly benefit local businesses as thousands of families and spectators flood into the region to vacation and support their athletes.

“Hosting an event of this scale places Portland squarely on the national stage," said Jim Etzel, CEO of Sport Oregon. "Bringing thousands of athletes and families to our city delivers a massive economic boost to our local hotels, restaurants, and small businesses. We are thrilled to welcome the fencing community and showcase Portland’s world-class hospitality and vibrant sports culture on a premier national level."
